ETHIO-KIWI KIDS SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
We provide a holiday programme from Monday to Friday during school holidays, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Wesley Primary school, Mount Roskill for approximately 50 kids aged between 5 – 13 years. A team of tutors and volunteers work on providing one on one support for the kids focusing on individual needs. We offer educational and recreational activities such as swimming sessions, museum trips and activities that emphasise learning about the cultures of Ethiopia and New Zealand. We have structured sessions to tap the potential of the students, ranging from indoor classes focusing on their curriculum to outdoor activities to unleash their energy.
We begin with an attendance and then focus on reading and writing to improve the vocabulary and imagination of the kids every day. We have sessions to understand and appreciate the geography of New Zealand, where kids are given maps and learn about the different terrain. There are crafts activities such as weaving and sewing as well as cooking sessions to help children become independent. We also watch educational projects such DIY science projects on DVD / USB. Sports, music and dance sessions are incorporated in our curriculum to further their skills and knowledge and help bring out their talents.
All these sessions are shuffled, and a timetable is given to kids at the beginning of the programme for every week.
We also offer free transport to and from the holiday programme for the less fortunate children, which many other programmes do not provide. We meet with the parents regularly and discuss their child’s progress and alert them of any areas that require special attention as well as receive feedback of what they want for their kids.
Cost: $24 per day for one child. OSCAR subsidy may be available.
Monday – Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for 10 weeks of the year between school terms
